While antelope squabbled over a patch of grass, a lioness wandered past our room on her way to the Ulusaba waterhole. One sly look at the Impala had her licking her lips in anticipation. And then the show began. The lioness… Continue reading Ulusaba Safari Lodge

Cape Town is full of superb restaurants, so the standards are high and bad service is unacceptable. I don’t often come across really terrible service, but La Piola really outdid themselves and go straight to my “worst ever” service experience.
La Piola is a pizzeria in Steenberg Village in the Constantia Valley. It is a small but busy restaurant and we arrived on Saturday night at around 8 pm. After a… Continue reading La Piola Restaurant - worst ever!

Riboville Restaurant is situated in the city center in the newly rehabilitated St Georges Mall area. This lovely, safe, area has plenty of parking and other up-market restaurants.
Riboville itself is situated in the old bank building, complete with ancient lift and massive vaults. The main restaurant is upstairs in a large open plan room, the smaller restaurant is downstairs in the bank… Continue reading Riboville Restaurant

Luckily I am not a bridezilla or I would… Continue reading Man of honour at my wedding!!

The wedding invitations are out and replies are starting to flow in. On the invitation we stated who is invited to… Continue reading Children at my wedding

Excitement is spilling over…..I am going on Rovos Rail for my honeymoon. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am.
Imagine snuggling up on the little veranda at the back of the train, bubbly in hand, watching the scenery go by as the train chugs along merrily. When hunger pangs strike, wave a… Continue reading Rovos Rail Honeymoon

Just amused myself by listening to a presentation on Ants Nest and Ants Hill, in the Waterberg Mountains, north of Johannesburg. I saw the words wedding venue and was there like a shot (and I must admit that I feel a bit sheepish about it!).
These are lodges for horse lovers – or potential… Continue reading Ants Nest Safari Lodge

There are so many hotels and lodges to choose between in Africa, so how do you know if you are getting what you expect or are going to end up at sleeping in someone else’s old sheets? You don’t really, but a good tour operator will steer you clear of the real… Continue reading 5 worst hotels in Africa
